Sake Class, Tasting, & Food Pairing

Join us at The Periodic Table on Saturday 02.24.2018 for an in-depth sake experience. We'll drink our way through a series of four sakes, accompanied by a curated food pairing, featuring cheese, pickles, and small plates by Chef Danny Keiser. While you're drinking, the owners, Jake Freed and Hiroko Nakamura of Shiba Ramen, will give a short talk about the basics of sake and how to approach sake as a casual drinker. We will close off the bar to the public for the duration of our event, and seating is limited to 20.

Even if you can't make the 2 p.m. seminar portion, we'll offer the four-course sake & food pairing for the same $40 price to walk-in customers for the rest of the day.

SF Beer Week: Cultivar Beer Tasting & Meet the Hop Farmer; All-Day Sausage Special

Cultivar Beer will join us at The Periodic Table Taproom in Public Market Emeryville for a tap takeover and a conversation with the hop farmer. Flights, pints, and pitchers all day. Mark Cabrera will tell us about his hop farm at 2 pm, and will be with us throughout the afternoon. We'll feature a house-made sausage special all day.

The Umami Experience: Tasting Menu, Drink Pairings, Taste Science Talk

Join us at The Periodic Table on Saturday 01.27.2018 for an all-umami experience. We'll eat our way through a series of small plates by Chef Danny Keiser, each emphasizing different high-umami ingredients. Each course will be accompanied by a curated drink pairing, featuring sake and other drinks. While you're eating and drinking, the owner and former organic chemist, Jake Freed of Shiba Ramen, will give a short talk about umami, explaining what it is, how it works, and how to think about it as a taste distinct from sweet, salty, sour, or bitter. Jake's talk will go over the basics of taste science, showing how different chemicals in our foods manifest themselves in our sensory experiences. We will close off the bar to the public for the duration of our event, and seating is limited to 15. 

All participants will have the opportunity to buy bottles of sake and spirits at 25% off the day of the event.

Attendees will take home a bottle of sake, selected from among the products featured in the tasting. We will close off the bar to the public for the duration of our event, and seating is limited to 15.
